Painting with Foodscraps - Dipingere con le Verdure

Don't throw away your food scraps! Look at what wonderful flower stamps they can make! Here you can see an apple core and three types of lettuce. We used watercolours and a plastic plate and you can see how delighted Sera was to paint in this way!

I''m thinking of trying the technique on a stained tablecloth I've been hoping to upcycle. Stay tuned!

Non buttare via i resti tagliate delle verdure! Guardate questi meravigliosi timbrini aforma di fiore che diventanno con un po di fantasia. Qui potete vedere il centro della mela e tre tipi di lattuga. Abbiamo usato acquerelli e un piatto di plastica per la pittura.  Vedi come felice Sera sperimentando la nuova tecnica?

Learning to Live in Joy - Vivendo con Gioia

One of the most wonderful things I've learnt since becoming a mommy is the art of being joyful.  Children have this amazing ability to simply be happy and to be happy with simplicity.

Sera is teaching me every day that it's alright to just be exactly where I am... I dont' have to constantly be thinking about what I need to be doing next. I can just sit and smile and make up silly dances or practice laughing in different styles (one of our new favorite games).  I can also choose all of the most colourful and ridiculous clothes in my wardrobe, put them all on at once and perform a native american rain dance. It's ok. It's ok to be happy. It's ok to experience joy. It's ok to be in the moment. It's what we were made for. Thank you for teaching me that, my crazy, funny, beautiful girl!

Una delle cose più belle che ho imparato da quando è diventato una mamma è l'arte di essere gioiosa. I bambini hanno questa sorprendente capacità di essere semplicemente felice e di essere felice con semplicità. 

Sera mi sta insegnando ogni giorno che va bene essendo esattamente dove sono io in ogni momento ... non devo essere costantemente pensando al prossim cosa che  devo fare. Posso sedermi e sorridere e inventare danze stupide o ridere in diversi stili (uno dei nostri nuovi giochi preferiti). Posso anche scegliere tutti i vestiti più colorati e ridicoli nel mio guardaroba, metterli tutti adosso ed eseguire un nativo americano danza della pioggia. E 'ok. E 'ok essere felici. E 'ok sperimentare la gioia. E 'ok essere nel momento. Siamo stati creati per questo. Grazie per avermi insegnato, mia pazza, divertente, bella ragazza!

Women I Admire - THEWONDERFUL Ana White

Here's is another wonderful example of a female role model for our daughters, part of the series about teaching our daughters about self-esteem.

Ana White

I first came across Ana White while fantasising about building a loft-bed for Sera when she gets older. I haven't done much carpentry in the past but I found her free plans for this loftbed house and I absolutely needed to know more about this woman.

The story goes like this: Ana  found herself building their own house board by board all on their own. It was then that she discovered her amazing talent for drawing up carpentry plans that anyone can make.  She has since offered free of charge hundreds of plans that she says anyone can build.  It is more complicated than assembling IKEA furniture but the satisfaction you get from knowing you created something from scratch is amazing.

So many women are afraid to take on tasks that they see inherently as male. Some women are even afraid to change a light bulb and Ana teaches us that not only can a woman build and create int his way, but also inspire and teach others as well. I hope that my daughter grows into a woman confident enough to look after her home and environment and also to build it herself.  Ana's free plans and inspiration will surely help me to teach at least a little bit of woodworking and carpentry to Sera.

Ho sentito di Ana White quando stavo cercando letto per Sera in forma di casa.  No ho lavorato molto con legno nel passato, ma ho trovato i suoi piani gratuiti per questa casa loftbed e ho assolutamente bisogno di sapere di più su questa donna. 

La storia è questa: Per motivi economiche Ana si trovò a costruire la propria casa a mano, con pezzi di legno. E 'stato allora che ha scoperto il suo straordinario talento per l'elaborazione di carpenteria.  Ritiene che con i istruzioni giusti chiunque può fare. Da allora ha offerto gratuitamente centinaia di piani che lei dice che chiunque può costruire .

E' ovviamente più complicato del montaggio mobili IKEA, ma la soddisfazione che si ottiene sapendo che hai  creato qualcosa da zero è incredibile. Molte donne hanno paura di assumere compiti che pensano maschile. Alcune donne hanno persino paura di cambiare una lampadina.  Ana ci insegna una donna può non solo costruire e creare il suo mondo intorno, ma anche ispirare e insegnare agli altri come farlo. Spero che mia figlia diventerà una donna ache puòprendere cura della casa e anche per costruirela come vuole lei per se stessa. I progetti gratis di Ana e ispirazione sul sito sicuramente mi aiuterà a insegnare e imparare almeno un pò sul lavorazione del legno e carpenteria Sera.

My Baby is 3! - La Mia Bimba ha 3 anni!

Today is Sera's third birthday and I'm celebrating the best three yeas of my life with it. If you had told me that that little tiny 5 pound, wrinkly squirmy stranger would become this wonderful big girl, and my best friend in these few short yearsI wouldn't have believed you! What an amazing thing to happen! What an amazing little girl.

Oggi è il terzo compleanno di Sera e sto ricordando questi ultimi tre anni, che sono stati i migliori della mia vita. Se mi avessero detto che quel piccolissimo di solo 2.4kili, straniera, rugosa, scricciola sarebbe diventata questa meravigliosa ragazza grande, eppure la mia migliore amica non ti avrebbe creduto! Che cosa incredibile! Che bambina incredibile.

I'm the kind of mum who would like to freeze time and stay in the moment forever. I get nostalgic for the littlest things even as they're happening. I worry that I won't remember the little things that she does now, which she won't do in a few short years, that make my heart sing. I love when she comes up to me and says she has a secret to tell me and then cups her little hand to my ear and says "meatballs". I love that she does the same thing in Italian to her friends and relatives who only speak Italian and I'm proud that she knows to do so. "Polpette!" I love that she tells me "but it's ok" when she sees that I'm a bit blue or that she's spilled milk on the table. I love that she gives me giraffe kisses by rubbing her nose on mine (when it isn't snotty). I love that she starts singing song she made up out of the blue and I love how she likes when I sing along ("we sang all-ke-gether!)

Sono una mamma che vorrebbe fermare il tempo e rimanere nel momento per sempre. Ho nostalgia per le cose più piccole anche mentre stanno accadendo. Temo che non mi ricordo le piccole cose che lei fa adesso, che lei non farà più tra pochi anni. Quelle cose che fanno volare il mio cuore. Mi piace quando lei viene da me e mi dice che ha un segreto e poi mette sua manina al mio orecchio e dice: "polpette". Mi piace che lei fa la stessa cosa in inglese per chi parla solo inglese e sono orgoglioso che lei sa di farlo. "Meatballs!" Mi piace che lei mi dice "ma è ok" quando vede che sono un po triste o quando il latte è rovesciato sul tavolo. Mi piace che mi dà baci giraffa strofinando il naso sulla mia (quando non sta collando!). Mi piace che lei inizia a cantare la canzone incomprensibile e mi piace come le piace quando canto anch'io ("tutti-in-sieme!")

We rented out her old daycare for the party and invited some of her little friends for the celebrations. I prepared tutus for the girls to play dress up and fairywings for whoever wanted to be a fairy. The kids played with balloons, ate snacks, danced, chased eachother around and generally just had a brilliant time. I made a wonderful cake and then forgot to take any photos of it. Everyone said it was delicious though so I guess that's more important.

Abbiamo affittato un nido per la festa e invitato alcuni dei suoi piccoli amici per i festeggiamenti. Ho preparato tutù per le ragazze di giocare vestire e fairywings per chi voleva essere una fata. I bambini hanno giocato con palloncini, snack mangiato, ballato, vicenda inseguito intorno e in generale appena avuto un tempo brillante. Ho preparato una torta stupendo e poi dimenticato di fotografarlo! Ma tutti hanno detto che era buono che è più importante.

Talk to your Daughters - Self-Esteem

I recently started following Claudia's blog LaCasaNellaPrateria and was inspired by a post of hers to talk a bit about teaching self-esteem to our daughters.  She mentioned that a few videos created by Dove's new self-esteem campaign had made her think. I watched them and they got me thinking as well, specifically this one about talking to your daughters before the beauty industry does.  What an important conversation to have!

Da poco ho iniziato a seguire LaCasaNellaPrateria blog di Claudia ed sono stata ispirato da un post sul insegniamento di auto-stima alle nostre figlie. Un paio di video creata di nuova campagna autostima della marca Dove l'ha fatto pensare. Li guardavo e mi hanno fatto pensare anch'io, in particolare questo ceh dice di parlare con le nostre figlie prima che l'industria della bellezza lo fa. Che conversazione importante da fare!

I'm lucky to have a self-confident daughter but will make an effort from now on to make sure that she knows that she's beautiful... and not only because of how she looks, but becasue of the whole package.  It brings such complete joy to my heart every time Sera runs off to have a look at herself in the mirror and does a twirl. I don't ever want her to lose that.  I want her to be herself with reckless abandon. I want her to know in her heart that she is perfect in ever way.

I'm so glad that I got over how I look a long time ago because it's one less illusion to worry about. We are all beautiful and we are all exactly as we're meant to be.

Sono fortunata ceh finora Sera è sicuro di sé, ma farò uno sforzo da ora in poi per assicurarmi che lei sa di essere bella ... e non solo a causa d'estetica, ma per l'intero pacchetto. Sento una gioia completa nel cuore ogni volta Sera corre, salta, balla e fa delle piroette davanti allo specchio. Voglio che si guarda cosi per tutta la vita. Voglio che sente di essere se stessa con sconsiderato abbandono. Voglio che lei sappia in cuore suo che lei è perfetta in ogni modo, sempre.

Sono così felice che ho abbandonato l'illusione della bellezza perfetta perchè e una cosa in meno di cui preoccuparsi. Sono bella in modo mio. Non c'è nessuno essatamente come me.  Siamo tutti belli e siamo tutti esattamente come dobbiamo essere.

Se volete essere ispirato da quello che un altra mamma ha fatto per insegnare sua bimba sulle donne a quale stimare andate a vedere i foto di Jamie C. Moore della sua figlia. Era un servizio che ha fatto per il suo quinto compleanno. Deve essere stato un divertente sessione di dress up!

In Claudia's post she leaves us with an interesting project. She asks us to have a think and find out a role model or two for our daughters that goes beyond the esthetic aspect of womanhood. In the next few days I'll be thinking up and researching these women and then describing them as I would to Sera.

Nel post di Claudia ci si lascia con un progetto interessante. Lei ci chiede di  pensare ad una donna che puo essere un nuovo modello per le nostre figlie.  Una che ha tante cose oltre l'aspetto estetica della femminilità. Nei prossimi giorni penserò e farò ricerca sul queste donne e poi  torno qui a descriverveli come farei se li stavo descivendo a Sera.
