My Baby is 3! - La Mia Bimba ha 3 anni!

Today is Sera's third birthday and I'm celebrating the best three yeas of my life with it. If you had told me that that little tiny 5 pound, wrinkly squirmy stranger would become this wonderful big girl, and my best friend in these few short yearsI wouldn't have believed you! What an amazing thing to happen! What an amazing little girl.

Oggi è il terzo compleanno di Sera e sto ricordando questi ultimi tre anni, che sono stati i migliori della mia vita. Se mi avessero detto che quel piccolissimo di solo 2.4kili, straniera, rugosa, scricciola sarebbe diventata questa meravigliosa ragazza grande, eppure la mia migliore amica non ti avrebbe creduto! Che cosa incredibile! Che bambina incredibile.

I'm the kind of mum who would like to freeze time and stay in the moment forever. I get nostalgic for the littlest things even as they're happening. I worry that I won't remember the little things that she does now, which she won't do in a few short years, that make my heart sing. I love when she comes up to me and says she has a secret to tell me and then cups her little hand to my ear and says "meatballs". I love that she does the same thing in Italian to her friends and relatives who only speak Italian and I'm proud that she knows to do so. "Polpette!" I love that she tells me "but it's ok" when she sees that I'm a bit blue or that she's spilled milk on the table. I love that she gives me giraffe kisses by rubbing her nose on mine (when it isn't snotty). I love that she starts singing song she made up out of the blue and I love how she likes when I sing along ("we sang all-ke-gether!)

Sono una mamma che vorrebbe fermare il tempo e rimanere nel momento per sempre. Ho nostalgia per le cose più piccole anche mentre stanno accadendo. Temo che non mi ricordo le piccole cose che lei fa adesso, che lei non farà più tra pochi anni. Quelle cose che fanno volare il mio cuore. Mi piace quando lei viene da me e mi dice che ha un segreto e poi mette sua manina al mio orecchio e dice: "polpette". Mi piace che lei fa la stessa cosa in inglese per chi parla solo inglese e sono orgoglioso che lei sa di farlo. "Meatballs!" Mi piace che lei mi dice "ma è ok" quando vede che sono un po triste o quando il latte è rovesciato sul tavolo. Mi piace che mi dà baci giraffa strofinando il naso sulla mia (quando non sta collando!). Mi piace che lei inizia a cantare la canzone incomprensibile e mi piace come le piace quando canto anch'io ("tutti-in-sieme!")

We rented out her old daycare for the party and invited some of her little friends for the celebrations. I prepared tutus for the girls to play dress up and fairywings for whoever wanted to be a fairy. The kids played with balloons, ate snacks, danced, chased eachother around and generally just had a brilliant time. I made a wonderful cake and then forgot to take any photos of it. Everyone said it was delicious though so I guess that's more important.

Abbiamo affittato un nido per la festa e invitato alcuni dei suoi piccoli amici per i festeggiamenti. Ho preparato tutù per le ragazze di giocare vestire e fairywings per chi voleva essere una fata. I bambini hanno giocato con palloncini, snack mangiato, ballato, vicenda inseguito intorno e in generale appena avuto un tempo brillante. Ho preparato una torta stupendo e poi dimenticato di fotografarlo! Ma tutti hanno detto che era buono che è più importante.

Summing Up Sunday: 2014 - Week 4

Sera was back at school by Wednesday and seemed pretty happy to go. I guess she was bored spending day in and out alone with me at home. The sun decided to turn up by the end of the week so we were lucky have some nice, warm weather.

I broke my phone so am back in the 00's with my little red Nokia. No smartphones or apps for me at the moment! I kinda miss whatsapp, but only because I'm sure there are people trying to contact me via the app and I'm snubbing them by not answering.

I stopped by Coin on the way home from the dentist and picked myself up a cute monochrome colour block dress on sale from Mango and then spent the rest of the week hoping to have an excuse to wear it.

I got some work done on Hick! and filled the rest of my time getting ready for the party on Saturday. I finished up the Tutus for the girls, made my own fairy wings and loot bags for the kids. I prepared the snacks (all of which I'm not actually allowed to eat) and got all the plates, cutlery and decorations together.

The party was a huge success and I'll write a whole post about it to share the fun with you tomorrow once I get through all the photos.

We went out to dinner with friends on Saturday night but unfortunately the chicken wings I ordered arrived breaded and there wasn't much else on the menu that I'm allowed to eat so it was a bit disappointing. I did have a salad but was still hungry when we left. Sometimes it's really hard to eat out at restaurants, especially because I start to seem crazy if I begin explaining all the restrictions to the waiter.

All in all a wonderful week and we get to spend the rest of Sunday at lunch with friends and enjoying our new toys and gifts.

Sera è tornata a scuola Mercoledì e sembrava abbastanza felice di andare . Credo che lei si annoiava stare tutti giorni dentro casa da solo con me. 

Ho rotto il mio telefono così sono tornato negli anni '00 di con il mio piccolo rosso Nokia. Non ho nessun smartphone o app in questo momento! Sto mancando solo il fotocamera e whatsapp, ma solo perché sono sicuro che ci sono persone che cercano di contattarmi e io li sto snobbando da non rispondendo.

Ho fatto un salto a Coin mentre tornatvo dal dentista e ho comprato un vestito bianco e nero  in saldo da Mango. Ho trascorso il resto della settimana sperando di avere una scusa per indossarla .

Ho fatto lavori sul Hick! e occupato il resto del tempo preparando per la festa di Sabato . Ho finito il tutu per le ragazze , fatto le ali di fata e lootbags per i bambini. Ho preparato gli spuntini e la torta e messo tutti i piatti, posate e decorazioni insieme.

La festa è stata un successo enorme e domani scrivo un post con tante foto.

Siamo andati a cena con gli amici Sabato sera, ma purtroppo le ali di pollo che ho ordinato erano impanati e non dovevo mangiarli.  Ho avuto un insalata ma avevo ancora fame quando siamo andati via. A volte è davvero difficile mangiare fuori in ristoranti, soprattutto perché comincio a sembrare pazza se comincio spiegare tutte le restrizioni al cameriere .

Tutto sommato una settimana meravigliosa e si arriva a passare il resto della Domenica a pranzo con gli amici e godersi i nuovi giocattoli e regali di Sera.

Easy DIY Fairy Wings

I really wanted each kid to have their own fairy wings at Sera's birthday party but was having trouble figuring out a quick and easy way to make between 6 and 15 sets of wings! I searched on line and most tutorials involved unwrapping wire coat hangers and stretching over a pair of pantyhose. Seeing how I don't happen to have a load of white pantyhose lying around the house it didn't make sense economically to do them that way. It also looked pretty labour intensive.

I came across a tutorial on line for paper wings made from scrapbook paper and I just happened to have a nice colour appropriate pad of paper on hand and decided to give it a try. You can visit the original tutorial here or follow along with my version of the project.

Per la festa di Sera volevo fare gli ali di fata per ogni bambino ma  non trovavo un modo rapido e facile da realizzare tra 6 e 15 paia di ali! Ho cercato online e nella maggior parte dei tutorial dovevo scartare filo appendiabiti e estendendere sopra su un paio di collant. Siccome come non mi capita di avere un carico di collant bianco, celeste o rosa in casa non aveva senso economico per fareli in quel modo. Sembrava anche molto faticoso.

Alla fine ho trovato un tutorial on-line per ali in carta scrapbook e mi è capitato di avere un blocco di carta scrapbook a portata di mano.  Ho deciso di provarlo. È possibile visitare il tutorial originale qui in inglese o seguire insieme la mia versione del progetto.

You'll Need............................................................ -hot glue gun -12"x12" /30x30cm page of scrapbook paper or card stock -Felt -Ribbon -Scissors

....................................................................Serve pistola di colla calda- 30cm x 30cm carta per scrapbooking- oppure cartoncino colorato feltro- nastro colorato- forbici-

1. Fold your scrapbook paper in half and trace the outline of one wing on the paper trying to make sure to fill up the wing until the edges of the paper. I did this freehand and made each one slightly different, but you can find loads of inspiration on line.

2. Cut out the wing and unfold the paper. Separate the two wings by cutting down the middle of the fold.

3. Glue a 3"x4" / 7.5cm x 10cm rectangle of felt to the back side of the wings overlapping the paper by roughly half a centimetre.

4: Cut 2 25" / 64cm lengths of ribbon for the straps.

5. On the wrong side of the wings glue the centre of the each ribbon along the area where the felt meets the paper wing. Use a lot of glue here because it will be the area under the most stress and strain.

6. Tie the wings onto your child and off you go!

1. Piegare la carta scrapbook a metà e tracciare il contorno di un'ala sulla carta cercando di fare in modo di riempire l'ala fino a quando i bordi della carta. L'ho fatto a mano libera ma si può trovare un sacco di ispirazione online. 

2. Tagliare l'ala e aprire. Separare le due ali tagliando nel mezzo della piega. 

3. Incollare un rettangolo 7,5 centimetri x 10 cm di feltro sul lato posteriore delle ali sovrapposte carta da circa un centimetro. 

4: Tagliare 2 nastri di 64 centimetri di lunghezza per le spalline. 

5. Sul retro delle ali incollare il centro del ciascun nastro lungo la zona in cui il feltro incontra l'ala di carta. Utilizzare un sacco di colla qui perché sarà l'area sotto tensione. 

6. Legare le ali sul vostro bambino e il gioco è fatto!
